Sometimes it amazes me how large and how small our world can be and I don’t think I’m alone. That’s why shows like “This is us” are so popular. The way our lives crisscross, intersect, and part is fascinating. Something as minor as the decision to stay in or go out for dinner can change the trajectory of your life in an instant. This is part of the reason I don’t believe in fate. Our lives are made up or little tiny personal decisions that lead up to great big moments.
Katy and Dakota are a perfect example. They met through a mutual friend and according to Dakota it was probably because “He’s a little weird and you might like this guy”. Two complete strangers brought together by a common interest chose to take a shot and get to know each other. Like many new age romances they began chatting via Facebook before deciding to meet up and get to know each other. I asked both of them, what’s the first thing you noticed about one another. Katy’s response was immediate: “I was not expecting your voice to be THAT low”. Dakota gave his answer a little thought and landed on: “You don’t like coffee”. Now my coffee loving self would have agreed, this would be a shocking revelation. On further investigation, there is more to the story but you will all have to wait until the wedding because Dakota promises to share it.
I got to spend the evening wandering though Hatcher Pass with this adorable couple. Talking about their wedding plans, their upcoming move to Washington, their budding careers in healthcare, and so much more. So many of my relationships have started this same way. People decide they need a photographer, book me for their photography needs, the poof, I have two new friends to add to the list.
Katy and Dakota, thank you so much for choosing me to document this event for you. I can’t tell you how excited I am for your wedding in the spring. I also can’t wait to find out for myself if Katy’s dad truly does like Dakota more than her. It’s an honor to get to celebrate this very great big moment with you.
